Burger King is proud to partner with Room-to-Read to help raise funds for Girls’ Education in India. Funds for the programme will be raised through our customers from over 250 restaurants of Burger King.
This initiative is a part of the ROOM TO READ – BURGER KING MCLAMORE FOUNDATION Partnership; a global initiative that supports the Room to Read’s Literacy Program. Through donations from generous Burger King employees, franchises and restaurant, as well as donations directly from the BURGER KING McLAMORE℠ Foundation, the Burger King system today supports more than 1,00,000 students through Room to Read’s Literacy Program in Cambodia, India, Nepal, Sri Lanka, South Africa, Tanzania and Zambia.
Room to Read (RTR) collaborates with local communities and governments to develop literacy skills and a habit of reading among primary school children, and support girls to complete secondary school with the relevant life skills to succeed in school and beyond. Room to Read India's Literacy Program is the country's only children’s education program that develops both literacy skills and reading habits. The Girls’ Education Program supports girls to finish secondary school by working with government stakeholders to advocate for girls' education.
Started in 2015 and located in the outskirts of Pune, Avasara Academy is a progressive secondary school with the aim to provide a unique and holistic education opportunity to promising and exceptional girl students. Burger King is associated with Avasara Academy to raise funds for this great cause which provides a platform to the girls to develop their leadership skills and make an impactful change in their communities.
Our working practices and policies are tuned in a way that our women employees feel comfortable and safe every single day that they come in to work.
Our workforce comprises of 30% women employees. However, real inclusion of women in the workforce can only happen if we create an environment of respect, awareness of appropriate behaviour and personal space, sensitisation to safe workplace etiquettes / policies.
Our regular self defence classes / grooming sessions / PoSH awareness session for our queens is a step in that direction.
- We actively encourage, nurture and foster women in leadership roles . This encourages more women to take up managerial responsibilities in our restaurants.
- We offer freedom/ flexibility to our women employees to work as per the schedules which suit their other commitments around children / home etc
